Description
Lithocarpus blumeanus is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 15 m tall and 25 cm in diameter. The bark is greyish-brown and scaly while the inner bark is brown and fibrous. It has yellowish sapwood. The leaves are thin-coriaceous (leather-like texture). Male flowers are grouped in clusters of three along the rachis while female flowers are distributed singly along the rachis. The perianth lobes of both male and female flowers are acute. The cupules are arranged singly along the rachis with stalk of about 5 to 10 mm long (Soepadmo & Saw, 2000).
Lithocarpus blumeanus can be found in primary mixed dipterocarp forest to lower montane forest at an altitude of up to 1,600 m and mainly on clay soils of igneous origin. This species is widely distributed in Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo. It is recorded in all districts in Sabah while in Sarawak, it is known in Kuching, Sri Aman, Kapit, Miri and Limbang districts (Soepadmo & Saw, 2000).
