Description

Hopea depressinerva is a large tree that can grow up to 25 m tall and 50 m diameter. It is endemic to Borneo where it has narrow distribution which known so far from Gunung Pueh and Bukit Jebong, both in Sarawak (Soepadmo et al., 2004). The species can be found in primary lowland to hill mixed dipterocarp forests on deep sandy loam soils over granodiorite up to 700 m elevation (Ashton, 2004; Julia et al., 2016). The tree of Hopea depressinerva has brown bark which becoming cracked along lines of lenticels (Soepadmo et al., 2004).The leaves are thinly coriaceous, lanceolate to narrowly elliptic blade and cuneate at the base (Soepadmo et al., 2004). This species is globally assessed as Critically Endangered (CR) in IUCN Red List.
