Description

Hopea bilitonensis or commonly known as Merawan Batu Kapur is a small, smooth-barked, tree species with stilt roots which belongs to the family Dipterocarpaceae. In Malaysia, it has been recorded only on a limestone hills in the relatively seasonal Northwest of Peninsular Malaysia. This species has restricted distribution and is threatened by the loss of its limestone habitats. It has been assessed as Critically Endangered in Malaysia (Yong et al., 2011).
