Description

Erycibe is one of the genera in Convolvulaceae, the family of morning glory. It is distinguished from other genera by the absence of style and the presence of barrel-shaped or conical stigma with 5 to 10-ridged. One of the species in this genus is Erycibe expansa. The genus name, Erycibe is derived from the Greek word meaning mildew, which is referring to the appearance of the hairs-like epidermal structures, while the species name is derived from a Latin word meaning spreading which referred to the large size of this species.  This species can be found in China, Myanmar, Peninsular Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia and India. In Peninsular Malaysia, it had been recorded only from Kedah including Langkawi Island.

This species is a climber or scandent shrub. The leaves are hairy to densely hairy on both surfaces, with a leathery texture. The terminal inflorescences have heavily stellate-hirsute indument on surfaces. The outside flower surfaces are covered with dense stellate hair. The corolla is whitish to tinged pink with a thickened fleshy. The base of the corolla is almost cordate with an acuminate apex. There is no fruit record for this species at the moment (Syahida-Emiza, 2015).
