Description

Dacryopinax spathularia is an edible jelly fungus where can be found growing on dead log. Sometimes it can be mistakenly with the inedible one. It is known as fan-shaped jelly fungus but in Chinese culture, this species is called as guihua er, which means “sweet osmanthus ear” referring to its similarity in appearance to that flower. This fungus has gelatinuous yellow-orange spatula-shaped fruitbodies measuring about 1-1.5 cm (0.4-0.6 inch) tall and 0.5-3.0 mm wide. It is commonly found in Asia and widely distributed in Europe, Hawaii and South America.
