Description

Codonoboea elata is an endemic species and can only be found in Peninsular Malaysia where it has been recorded to occur in Bukit Larut and Gunung Bubu, Perak. This species was found growing in lower montane forests from 700-1000 m of altitude in deep shade and often on earth slopes above the streams.

This bushy, perennial herb branches from the base and has green, quadrangular stems measuring up to 50 cm tall, becoming woody and may or may not be hairs. The leaves are opposite and decussate with green and sometimes maroon petioles. It has an ovate lamina, sometimes elliptic or broadly elliptic, pale green to yellowish colour above and whitish green colour beneath. The base is rounded to slightly decurrent or cuneate, sometimes unequal and the margin is always serrulate. Its inflorescences are cymose, axillary with two per axil, each with up to six flowers. The corollas are reddish to dark purple and narrowly infundibular. Codonoboea elata has five corolla lobes that are much darker red than the corolla tube with a dark yellow patch inside the throat. The outside of the corolla is slightly hairy, and narrow in the lower part. It has two white stamens, with curved filaments and the anthers are fused face-to-face.
