Description

Alphonsea havilandii is a small tree that can grow up to 9 m tall and is known as Semukau by Ibanese people (Kessler, 1996). When the twigs are dry, they are pale brown with irregularly wrinkled. The leaves are elliptic-shaped with blade size between 8.5−22.5 and 5.0−11.5 cm and have coriaceous texture. This species has clusters of one to three yellow flowers. It produces up to six cylindrical monocarps with size up to 7.5 cm long and up to 2.5 cm wide, where every monocarp can contain six or more seeds. It is native to Borneo specifically Sabah and Sarawak. This species can be found in lowland and lower montane forests at altitudes up to 1,500m (Turner et al., 2014).
