Description
Aegus acuminatus is a type of stage beetle that belongs to the family Lucanidae. It can grow up to 30 mm in length. One can notice that both sexes of this beetle are black with deeply striated elytra. The adult's head and protorax are broad and as long as the elytra. The mandibles are curved inwards and forked at the tips. A small tooth is found at the inner base of each mandible. The female can be differentited by having short and developed mandibles. This species is considered as pest because there are records showing that the flowers of coffee and cocoa is damaged by this species (Tung, 1983).
