Description

Cheiromeles torquatus is known as naked bat, hairless bat or greater naked bat in English, or Batin Kelasar in Malay. C. torquatus belongs to the family Molossidae. The naked bat is considered a large bat because the forearm length can growth up to 83.4 mm. It is easily to recognise as it body almost completely naked with only scattered hairs. The bare skin of body is dark grey in colour. The large ears are separate and exposed tail can be seen. It is found in Malaysia, Peninsular Thailand, Philippines, Sumatra, Java and nearby small islands. The roosting site for this species is in large caves or hollow trees. They forages in open areas or high over the forest canopy.
