Description

The Common Rose is a butterfly species which can easily be recognised by the red body beneath. The male has bluish black with red markings on the underside of the head and body while the female is similar with male but larger and has whitish streaks on its forewing (Kirton, 2014). Its wingspan is about 5.5 cm long. This species inhabits inland forests and is widely distributed from North India to Vietnam, Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia (Kirton, 2014). It is sometimes active in the late evening where it can be seen flies at low to moderate height at the forest understory or forest edge.
