Description
Leptobrachella baluensis is a small, slender frog species that belongs to the Megophryidae family. This species is locally known as the Kinabalu Dwarf Litter Frog and is endemic to Borneo. It is native to both Malaysia and Indonesia where it has been found in the submontane and montane forests of western Sabah, northern Sarawak, and northeastern Kalimantan from 750-2200 m above sea level (IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group, 2018).
The Kinabalu Dwarf Litter Frog's foot lacks webbing and its toe and fingertips are pointed. It has smooth skin on the back with a few light-coloured glands on the side. The frog is grey above with dark markings bordered by a lighter colour and the supratympanic fold is a sharply defined, black streak. It also has 1-4 black spots on the sides and a dark grey belly with small light spots. Both male and female of this species grow to approximately 20 mm (Inger & stuebing, 2005).
