Leptobrachium montanum or commonly known as the Montane Litter Frog is an endemic species to Borneo and is native to Malaysia and Indonesia reportedly occurring in northern, northwestern, and southwestern Borneo. This frog inhabits the submontane and montane forests at an elevational range of 900-1,800 m above sea level IUCN SSC Amphibian Specialist Group, 2018). The Montane Litter Frog is a stocky, broad-headed frog with bulging eyes and under-sized limbs which are short and slender in comparison to its stocky body. Its appearance and colouration are similar to L. abbotti (Lowland Litter Frog) but is lighter and more brownish instead of black, mimicking the dead leaves. The species has smooth skin and its belly is always a dirty grey without markings. There is also a narrow, bluish white ring encircling around the eyeballs of its bulging eyes and can be seen at the edge of the eyelids (Inger & Stuebing, 2005).
