Microhyla butleri is a frog species that has toe tips with distinct small discs bearing median notch and cleft of upper surface of discs. This species has two metatarsal tubercles and its toes are about one-third webbed. Its tympanum is not visible. This species has dark mark on the back which usually distinct or broken into symmetrical spots. This species can grow up to a snout-vent length of 22.5 – 26.0 mm. Its inhabits primary forest, freshwater wetland, cultivated area and grasslands. It can be found along open logging trails, forest trails and under forest litter. The altitudinal range of this species is at about 0 - 1000 m. The distribution of this species can be found in Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
