The Malay Civet, Viverra tangalunga is a nocturnal and a ground dweller. The dorsal part of Malay Civet is greyish-coloured with numerous black spots. There is a black stripe along the midline extends to tip of tails. The underparts are white-coloured, while the throat has bold black markings. It can be differentiate from other species by having about 15 black bands on its tail. It occurs in Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and adjacent small islands, Borneo, Sulawesi and Palawan (Philippines). It inhabits lowlands and lower montane, primary and secondary forest. It is omnivorous as it feeds on invertebrates, forest fruits and carrion.
