Description
The Common Myna (Acridotheres tristis), also called as Tiong Gembala Kerbau in Malay is a member of Sturnidae (Starlings) family that lives and commonly distributed in open country, cultivated areas, towns, gardens and parks. It is widely distributed in Iran and southern Russia to the Indian subcontinent and southern China through South-East Asia and the Malay Peninsula. It can be seen frequently on the grounds either in pairs or group, feeding on insects, small invertebrates, fruits including food scraps. This species build nest in coconut palms including cracks and eaves of the building (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993; Jeyarajasingam & Pearson, 2012).
Like other Acridotheres, the Common Myna has yellow orbital skin including blackish head, throat, upper breast and tail that are strikingly different from dark brown plumage as well as white wing patch which is visible in flight (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993; Jeyarajasingam & Pearson, 2012).
