Description
Aegithina tiphia, commonly known as Common Iora or Burung Kunyit Kecil in Malay is a small bird belonging to the Aegithinidae family. This species lives in the forests and well-wooded areas, scrubs, cultivated areas and gardens. It feeds mainly on insects such as grasshoppers, caterpillars, dragonflies and mantises. They also consume spiders, fruits, berries and nectar.
The breeding male of the common iora has a black crown, bright yellow face, blue-grey pointed bill, black eyes and slate blue-grey on its legs and feet. During the non-breeding season, the male appears to have greenish upperparts resembling the female but the wings are still black with white wingbars. While the female has greenish upperparts, dull yellow underparts, forehead and eyebrow, olive-green crown, grey-black wings and an olive tail.
