Description
Measuring around 23 cm in length, the Ochraceous Bulbul or locally known as Merbah Berjanggut Gunung (Jeyarajasingam & Pearson, 2012) in Malay is a songbird species belongs to Pycnonotidae (Bulbul) family. The adult has a greyish brown upperpart, and olive coloured mantle together with rufescent uppertail coverts and rump. It also has greyish brown on sides of the head along with white throat and chin.
The Ochraceous Bulbul is endemic across the Sundaland region where it can be found in Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam (BirdLife International, 2016). In Peninsular Malaysia, this species appears to be common at the lower elevations up to the submontane level (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993; Jeyarajasingam & Pearson, 2012). It can also be found throughout the mountains in Borneo (Phillips, 2014).
