Description

Southeast Asian Softshell Turtle is categorized in freshwater turtle group. In Malay, this species is known as Labi-labi biasa. It inhabits most types of freshwater and feeds on prawns, crabs, snails, clams, insects, fish and vegetable matter (Moll & Khan, 1990). This large softshell turtle can be characterized by its long series of rounded carapace with small lump along the anterior carapace margin. The carapace is greenish-grey or olive colour, sometimes with yellow-bordered black spots or radiating streaks. Its underside is nearly uniform white or cream in male and pale grey in female. It also has a narrow head with long nasal trunk (Das, 2010).
