Description
Maroon woodpecker or scientifically known as Blythipicus rubiginosus, can be distinguished by its chestnut maroon upperpart, dark brown underparts and the pale yellowish bill. The male has red sides near the neck and nape. It occurs from Myanmar and the Malay Peninsula to Sumatra and Borneo. It is a common resident where it can be found from the lowlands to the mountains in Malaysia. Usually, this woodpecker forages on dead wood.
