Description
Centropus sinensis, commonly known as Greater Coucal is a big-sized bird measure about 53cm in length. They have their own charm, enhanced by their haunting voice and can be found in scrub, grassland, secondary vegetation, edges of mangrove and riverbanks. It feeds on insects and small vertebrates. The Greater Coucal has black with glossy sheen head, tail and underparts while its wings covered with bright chestnut. The juvenile is quite similar to adult but has finely barred grey on black areas and barred blackish on its wings and back (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993).
