Because of its smooth, shiny scales and iridescent underbelly, this snake is called the Rainbow Water Snake. This small snake is rear-fanged and its venom is only dangerous towards its prey, such as fish and frogs. It is harmless to humans. The snake is often found in freshwater streams, rice paddies or drainage systems but also occurs in brackish water habitats such as mangrove forests.
