Description
The Lesser green leafbird (Chloropsis cyanopogon) is a small-sized bird measuring about 18 cm in length (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993). Both sexes are covered with bright grass-green colour plumages where the males can be distinguished from females by the presence of black patch on its throat.
This species is endemic throughout Sundaland. It is found in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and Vietnam (BirdLife International, 2016). In Peninsular Malaysia, C. cynapogon can be seen on the canopy and middle storey of lowland rainforest. It produced a series of loud musicals whistle with deep mellow sound in between (Jeyarajasingam & Pearson, 2012). Due to extensive loss of lowland forests in South-East Asia, this bird has been listed as Near threatened by the IUCN Red List (BirdLife International, 2020).
