Description
Corydon sumatranus is a stout-bodied bird with a large head belonging to the Eurylaimidae (broadbill) family. Commonly known as the dusky broadbill, this species is found in Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and montane forests.
Both sexes of the dusky broadbill are similar. The dusky broadbill has a blackish brown head with buffish throat and a narrow white band near the tip of its tail. The naked skin that surrounds its eyes and covers the lores has a pinkish colour. The wings are brown with an obvious white spot at the level of the primaries. It also has blackish legs and pinkish or yellowish broad bill. The juveniles are browner than adults, absent of the orange spot on the coat and its throat is almost entirely brown. The white spots on the wings are also very small.
This species feeds on lizards, large Hemiptera such as bedbugs or grasshoppers. It also consumes a wide variety of invertebrates such as locusts, beetles, ants and other soft-body insects.
