Description

Cutia nipalensis is a species of bird commonly known as Himalayan cutia. The cutia is one of the most sought-after birdwatching experiences. The natural habitat range for this species is tropical to subtropical humid montane forests and can be found in montane forest above 1,200 m, keeping to large trees.

The Himalayan cutia has a black mask with dusty blue crown, black wings with blue bases and white tips to tail feathers; black tip of the tail. The plumage is white below, with narrow black bars on sides of its breast and flanks. The back and rump for the male is chestnut while for the female is olive with black spot. This bird feeds on insects, larvae, pupae, gastropods, insect eggs, seeds and berries. It also has been seen to feed on pine cones.
