Description

Asian Giant Softshell Turtle or known as Labi-labi Raksasa in Malay is categorized in freshwater turtle group. It has olive-grey or brownish flattened carapace, head, neck and limbs but may have some indistinct pale or darker spots. The eyes are close to the snout tip and the nose is short but the head is much shorter than in Chitra. Its underside is uniformly white, sometimes with pink blotched (Das, 2010). This softshell species prefers estuarine regions but also occurs in coastal mudflat areas and large rivers far inland. It feeds mainly on fish, prawns, crabs and molluscs.
