Eupetes macrocerus or commonly known as the rail-babbler is a species of bird in the Eupetidae family. This species inhabits the floor of primary forests in the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra and mainly feeds on insects including cicadas, beetles and also spiders.
The rail-babbler has predominantly chocolate-brown plumage and patches of red-orange plumage on its forehead and crown. The neck, chin and throat are rich chestnut colour. It also has a long, black eyestripe extending from its bill to the sides of the neck with a broad, white supercilium above it. There is a strip of bare, blue skin on the sides of the neck which can be seen when the bird calls and displays, and probably has signalling significance for a dark species living in low light on the forest floor. The two sexes appear the same and the juvenile birds are similar to the adults but are overall duller in colour with a whitish throat and dark grey-brown belly.
