Description
Among the three species of laughingthrush in Peninsular Malaysia, Garrulax lugubris (Black Laughingthrush) is the least common species found. It is widely distributed and endemic to Sundaland region where it can be found in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand (BirdLife International, 2016). This species mainly found at the submontane elevations moves around in small groups while uttering a series of loud ‘poop’ notes to attract attention (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993; Jeyarajasingam & Pearson, 2012).
In general, the Black Laughingthrush has a dull blackish slate plumage, orange bill together with blue skin patch around its eyes (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993; Jeyarajasingam & Pearson, 2012).
