Lesser Fish Eagle or scientifically known as Icthyophaga humilis, belong to the family Accipitridae. It size can range between 51 to 64 cm. In term of shape and colour, Lesser Fish Eagle look like Grey-headed Fish Eagle, the difference is that the former is smaller in size and tail is all dark with little white mottling at base. For the juvenile, both species also look alike, but the whitish streaks are less prominent on breast on Lesser Fish Eagle and it shows darker brownish mottles on underwing coverts. This species can be occurring from India through South-East Asia to Sumatra, Borneo and Sulawesi. It favours the forested waterways. It is locally common from low elevation up to 300 m in Peninsular Malaysia and near coast as well as headwaters of clear water river in the hills in East Malaysia. This species is declining due to deforestation, overfishing and pollution.
