Description

Lophura ignita also known as Crested fireback is a medium-sized bird, up to 70 cm long (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993). The male species has dark bluish violet plumage with orange reddish patch on its back and white central tail feathers. The female crested fireback is a brown bird with white streaked on its breast. Both sexes have notable upright crests with blue facial skin around their eyes. The pheasants usually move in groups on the forest floor and search for ants, termites and fallen fruit. This species is endemic to Sunda land including Peninsular Malaysia and commonly inhabits the riverbank of lowland rainforest.
