Description
Abbott’s babbler (Malacocincla abbotti), also known as Kekicau riang in Malay is a small passerine bird that can grow up to 17 cm long. It is widespread and fairly common throughout the Oriental region which ranges from North-east India through Myanmar and extending to the Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo. This species is known to inhabit the lowland rainforest of Peninsular Malaysia (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993; Jeyarajasingam & Pearson, 2012).
In general, the Abbot’s babbler has olive-brown upperparts with faint buffy streaks on its crown. It also has a whitish throat with buffy belly and the centre of breast. This bird produces a whistle of ‘whee-woo-wheew’, especially in the morning. It often moves in small groups along forest trails and edges to search for foods (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993).
