Description
Picus vittatus, or commonly known as Laced Woodpecker is a species of bird belongs to family Picidae. It can be measured about 30 cm in length. The male has dull yellowish olive plumage, scaly belly and flight-feathers, and red crown. While the female has a similar appearance to male but with a black crown. This species is an uncommon woodpecker that occurring all across the west coast plains of Peninsular Malaysia, such as in mangrove forests, coconut groves, bamboo thickets and tall, seashore scrub. It feeds on insects, worms, and larvae obtained both on tree trunks and from the ground (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993).
