The small and active bird, Prinia flaviventris is called as Yellow-bellied Prinia or Perenjak Kuning in Malay. It can be distinguished from the species of the same genus, Prinia rufescens by the yellowish colour on its belly and under the tail coverts. This species is common in all kind of open country, near the coast as well as far inland at low elevations. It can also be found in tall grass, roadside scrub and on agriculture but rare in the mountains (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993).
Both males and females of the Yellow-bellied Prinia have similar characteristics. It has olive-green upperparts, slaty grey head, sometimes with a whitish eyebrow, cream breast grading into its bright yellow abdomen and under tail coverts underparts. It also has a narrow long-tail fringed with black and white (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993). The tailorbird has the same appearance as the Yellow-bellied Prinia, but they can be distinguished by the Yellow-bellied Prinia's grey head.
