Description
Pteruthius melanotis, also known as the Black-eared Shrike-babbler is a bird species belonging to the family Vireonidae. This species is found in Bhutan, China, India, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
The Black-eared Shrike-babbler appears similar to a little thick-billed warbler. Both male and female have brilliant yellow plumages, black olive-green crown, a faint slaty collar behind the nape; dark wings with two bars (white in the male, buff in the female) and a dark tail with white outer feathers. Furthermore, the male has more orange on its throat and upper breast while the female has whitish upper breast and yellowish ear coverts with a black outline. This bird feeds on large green grasshoppers and other insects.
