This large-sized tern, known as Great Crested Tern is measured about 46 cm in length. The flight is rather leisurely with slow wingbeats. It can be seen far offshore and also in sheltered waters of estuaries and in the Straits of Johore between Malaysia and Singapore. The Great Crested Tern has grey mantle, white forehead and underparts and a yellow bill during the non-breeding season while the entire crown is black on breeding season (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993).
