The Spotted Dove, also known as Tekukur in Malay (Nee & Nordin, 2018) is a species of bird commonly found in the woodlands, open country, fields and human settlements including towns, gardens and parks. It can be seen walking on the ground most of the time feeding on seeds (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993). This species is widely distributed in the Oriental region, ranging from India, China to the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, Borneo, Java and Philippines (Strange & Jeyarajasingam, 1993; Phillipps, 2014).
This dove is recognizable by the long, slender wedge-shaped tail and broad black patch on the back of the neck with fine white spot. It also has orange iris, black bill, red legs and brown upperparts with blackish streaks on it. The broad whitish tips on the outer tail feathers and pale greyish crescentic patch on the outer wing coverts and bend of wing only visible in flight (Jeyarajasingam & Pearson, 2012).
