Mocquard’s water skink (Tropidophorus mocquardii) is a species endemic to Borneo, which can be found in Sabah, Brunei and Sarawak. T. mocquardii has a slender body, smooth forehead scales and the tympanum is smaller than orbit. Also, mocquard’s water skink has brown dorsal surface with transverse dark bands, the flanks have white spots and ventral surface cream or yellowish. This species is diurnal and semi-aquatic, as it lives along the banks of streams, but can also be found on large rocks or logs in the water. It tends to spend the night on rocky cliffs overgrown with moss (Malkmus et al. 2002). Mostly, this species inhabits the mid-hills within primary forest. On Mount Kinabalu, it is the most common scincid species in mountain streams up to 1,000 m elevation (Malkmus et al. 2002). A female has been observed containing four fully developed embryos (Malkmus et al. 2002).
