Taxonomy

Description

The orchid species, Agrostophyllum majus have flowers that are pale yellow or white with some crimson on the lip and column. This species’ flowering occurs as the new growth is completed at about once a year. The inflorescences are in a terminal globular head made up of many spikes covered with imbricate bracts and bearing several flowers. This species is found in Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Solomon Islands and probably Java. In Peninsular Malaysia, this species is a common lowland epiphyte often found in exposed places and also in the mountains.
