Description

Mangrove Red Snapper has moderately deep body; preorbital bone relatively broad, wider than eye diameter and emarginated to nearly truncate caudal fin. Its body generally greenish brown on back, grading to reddish on sides and ventral parts; scales usually with dark centers and white margins, giving a reticulated appearance; hyaline pectoral fin; dark brown pelvic and anal fins becoming paler towards base. It is a euryhaline species and normally 120 cm length. Juveniles and young adults occur in mangrove estuaries and in the lower reaches of freshwater streams.
