Description

This species is called Chacunda Gizzard Shad and its body is very deep, almost oval, strongly compressed and belly keeled with scutes. It has smooth opercle, without bony striae. Its body is silvery, darker dorsally; occiput to nape yellowish or gold and a large black spot behind gill opening. This fish inhabits in inshore waters and estuaries; it feeds on zoo- and phytoplanktons.
