Description

The Greek words kyathos, which means cup, and calyx, which refers to the cup-shaped calyx, are combined to form the genus name Cyathocalyx. On the other hand, magnifructus, is a combination of the Latin words magni, which means large, and fructus, which means fruit. Cyathocalyx magnifructus, as its name suggests, is a species that produces round and large fruits with at least 8 cm in diameter and contains at least 20 seeds per fruit. The seed is about 1.5 cm in diameter and 3 cm long. This species can reach height up to 20 m. The twigs are brown, smooth and glabrous. The leaves are elliptic-ovate or lanceolate with blade size ranging from 10−34 cm long and 4-11 cm width, and have chartaceous to thinly coriaceous texture. The colour of the dried leaves are grey-green with pale brown-yellow midrib and veins. It is native to Borneo including Sabah, Sarawak and Kalimantan. It can be found between 15 and 100 m above sea level at lowland forests. This species usually flowering from January to November and fruiting from March to November (Wang & Saunders, 2006). According to research by Riyadi (2015), this species is included as one of the tree species used as Orang Utan nests.
