Description

This species is commonly known as Indian Scad and has elongate, slender and cylindrical body; adipose eyelid well developed and completely convering eye except for a vertical slit centered on pupil; posterior end on maxilla almost truncate; predorsal scaled area not reaching to level of center of eye and a straight part of lateral line usually entirely with scutes (30-40), but rarely a few cycloid scales anteriorly. Its body is bluish gray dorsally, silvery ventrally and a black spot posteriorly on opercle. It inhabits inshore waters up to 100 m depth.
