Description

Scolopsis vosmeri is commonly known as Whitecheek Monocle Bream. It has a deep and compressed body. Each suborbital has a large backwardly-pointed spine, and there is an antrorse spine just below each eye. The external edge of the maxilla is smooth. The pelvic fin can reach to or beyond the anus when depressed, and it has forked caudal fin. The head and the body are paler ventrally. Also, there is a distinct, broad white vertical bar on the head. Normally, it is found in offshore or coastal waters with sandy or muddy bottom around coral reefs.
