Description

This species is commonly known as Bigeye Tuna. It has robust, slightly compressed and fusiform body; two dorsal fins; very small scales on body; caudal peduncle with a strong lateral keel between 2 smaller keels and ventral surface of liver striated. Its back colour is metallic dark blue and whitish of lower sides and belly; a lateral iridescent blue bands runs along sides in live specimens and deep yellow of first dorsal fin but light yellow of second dorsal and anal fins. It is a pelagic oceanic species and taken from the surface to depths of 250 m.
