Cyathea polypoda is a type of tree fern belongs to family Cyatheaceae. It is widely distributed in Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo and the Philippines where it can be found in open places, in hill dipterocarp forest to lower montane forest, on ridges and summits at an altitude of 600 to 1,300 m (Parris et al., 2020).
The trunk is erect and often 3 m tall covered with persistent stipe bases; the lower part of the trunk may have small branches. The type of the fronds is pinnate or bipinnate, about 1 to 2 m long. The stipe is pale greenish to medium brown, 80 cm long, and densely scaly near the base. The medium brown coloured scales are shiny and firm. Sori occur near the midvein of fertile pinnules without indusia (Large & Braggins, 2004).
