Description

Drepananthus ramuliflorus is a tree that can reach height 30–35 m and 60 cm diameter (Partomihardjo et al., 2020). The genus name drepananthus is derived from the Greek words drepanos means falcate or sickle-shaped, and anthos which denotes to flower. The combination of this two terms describing the sickle-shaped flower petals of this genus. Ramuliflorus, on the other hand, derived from Latin words ramulus, which means branchlet and florum means flowers, which describing the flowers emerging from the branches. The brown twigs are smooth and coated with uniform short red brown hairs. The leaves have membranous to stiffly coriaceous texture with elliptic-oblong blade shape measuring around 19–34 cm long and 11–18 cm wide.  The midrib and veins of the top blades have an edging of short and stiff hair, while the blade and veins underneath are hairy. The dried leaves are brown with the top brighter than the underneath. The flower has terete petals along its whole length, measuring approximately 6 mm long and 1 mm wide. It has about six to eight of globose monocarps measuring from 2.5 cm long and 1.5–2.0 cm in wide, while each monocarp containing numerous smooth, flat and ovate seeds with size approximately 10 mm long and 7 mm in diameter. According to Turner et al. (2014), this species has been recorded growing in lowland and hill forests at altitude up to 1,100 m along the way from Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Sabah (Borneo).
