Description

Flickingeria fimbriata is a sympodial and epiphyte plant flowering in April, May, October and November. The flowers of this orchid are short-lived which only bloom for a half day. This species is most abundant in the area without long dry season and it often covers tree trunks which overhang at the sea or rivers. The rhizomes of this species are thick, short and branched. The pseudobulbs of this orchid carrying a single leaf which is flat and slightly grooved. The inflorescences from the axil of foliage leaf with one or two flower. The sepal and petal are yellow to cream with red purple spots on the inside. The distribution of this species occurs in Sumatra, almost throughout South-east Asia and north to China through Thailand. In Peninsular Malaysia, this species was found in many localities in the lowlands from sea level to mid-elevation in the hills. In Perlis, it was recorded in Bukit Pelarit and Bukit Rongkit.
