Description

Trogonoptera brookiana or more commonly known as Rajah Brooke’s Birdwing, is a type of butterfly belonging to the family Papilionidae. Its wingspan is measured around 25-28 cm. Its head is bright red with black and red markings on the body. For male, the forewings consist of seven tooth-shaped electric-green markings on its black wings. Meanwhile, the female has browner wings, white flashes at the tips of the forewing and at the base of the hindwing (Parry, 2020). This butterfly is named by a naturalist, Alfred Russel Wallace in 1855, after Sir James Brooke, the Rajah of Sarawak.  It is distributed in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Myanmar (Böhm, 2018).
