Elaeocarpus petiolatus is a species of plant belongs to family Elaeocarpaceae. The epithet names is derived from Latin word, ‘petiolatus’, means leaf stalk. It is distributed in Bangladesh, Myanmar to Thailand, Indo-China, China (Hainan), Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia (except Perlis), Singapore and Borneo. This species commonly grow in lowland to hill forest, especially along forest margins and old secondary forest, sometimes in peat swamp or coastal forest at sea level to 450 m altitude (Kiew et al., 2018).

This tree is a small to medium-sized tree, growing up to 25 m tall. The bole often with spreading or short steep buttresses. The twigs are glabrous with terminal buds gummy-resinous. The leaves develop loosely grouped towards twig tips with petioles 3-8 cm long. The racemes grow among or behind the leaves with the glabrous axis or a few short hairs. The flowers are 5-merous with oblong petals and parallel-sided to base (Kiew et al., 2018). It will flowering several times a year and the crown becoming covered in flowers for a few days before they fall (Gardner et al., 2011; Kiew et al., 2018). The sepals are falling earlier than stamens with glabrous or sparsely hairy outside and glabrous inside. The fruits are glossy grey-green or dull dark blue (Kiew et al., 2018) and its oily fruits are edible and consumed by monkeys (Gardner et al., 2011; Kiew et al., 2018).
