Description

Commonly known as Engkabang Rusa, Shorea stenoptera is a medium-sized tree that reaches up to 70 cm in diameter. It is one of the timber species which locally common in the patchy lowland heath forest and prefers on flooded sandy alluvium (Ashton, 1998; Yong et al., 2011). This tree has been planted especially for its large illipe nuts (Ashton, 1998). While the fruits are harvested for illipe fat production in Sarawak (Blicher-Mathiesen, 1994).
