Description

Merawan Bunga is a medium-sized tree in family Dipterocarpaceae that can reach up to 63 cm in diameter. It is endemic to Peninsular Malaysia and known only from Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor and Johor. It grows in lowland dipterocarp forests, and prefers on well drained flat land and low hills (Chua et al., 2010; Yong et al., 2011). This species is traded as merawan timber and in the past, the bark was used for walls and partitions for houses (Burkill, 1935). Due to population reduction arising from land conversion to agriculture, Merawan Bunga is categorized as Vulnerable (Yong et al., 2011).
